Artist in Residency

Artist in Residence Ewa Bańkowska

14.02-06.03

Nadalokal will welcome Ewa Bańkowska as resident, developing her performance Kurz und Knapp which will premiere on 28.04.2022 in WUK. She will work on the following questions:

How to report living? How to announce a personal sensations? How to emote a fact? How to make self-sentiment appealing and self-pity attractive?

In “kurz und knapp” Ewa Bańkowska uses the format of a newscast show to stage a personal, poetic report. Starting with a dry delivery of general facts and observations of reality, she arrives at frictional dead-end streets and finds herself stranded on the comforting island of escapism, eventually laying open an emotional struggle to accept some of life’s inevitable events, like e.g. death. While trying to keep professional, she reports in a

straightforward manner personal observations, which results in an interesting tension between the form and the content. To her own astonishment, she delivers a delightfully preposterous news-performance.
