MATRIA, MOTHERLAND

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE ROCIO MERANO ( AR / ES/DE)

1ST STUDIO SHOWING 23.11.2021 18:30 (Postponed due to Lock Down)

In Matria, the choreography explores the moving forces between body presence and colonial/patriarchal history through the embodiment of the Malambo, the gaucho resistance dance (currently known in Argentina as an exclusive solo competition among men). The dancers embody the gestures of mounted combat and its agitated rhythms while negotiating their own survival in the dance. A connection between the essential and the disciplinary in dance is revealed as a extension of colonial relations.
